The protesters, who stormed the streets of Osogbo with placards bearing different inscriptions, warned of the consequences of the plan to depose the monarch, whom they said they had confidence in his leadership as their traditional leader.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read; “Don’t Cause Confusion in Osogbo”, “Stop the Attempt to Depose Oba Jimoh”, “Efura oo, Ijoba Ipinle Osun fe da Rukerudo Sile” “Ataoja of Osogbo is Our King”.

Recall that the State government through the chief press secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan, had in a release alerted the public of an attempt to incite people of the State against the governor.

In a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday evening, the government advised Osogbo Action Committee not to incite the people against Governor Oyetola by spreading falsehood that the government was planning to dethrone Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji.

Omipidan noted that a letter addressed to the governor asking him to stay action on a non-existent plan was not only mischievous but also a wicked one deliberately designed to pitch the people against the governor and his government by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) masquerading as community leaders.

Also earlier on Tuesday, a high-powered delegation of the government led by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebanji, had visited the Osogbo monarch to commiserate with him on the fire incident that razed a part of the popular Oja-Oba Market in the ancient town.
