Maricel Romero Cantillo has been reappointed as the Honorary Consul of Colombia to Nigeria, extending her tenure for an additional four years, which strengthens the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Cantillo has distinguished herself in the diplomatic field, and her reappointment is a testament to the confidence Columbia has in her work, coupled with her notable efforts in boosting bilateral relations between the two countries, a statement from the Consulate said on Wednesday.

The announcement followed the historic visit of Colombia’s Vice President to Nigeria a few weeks ago, which focused on deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, culture, education, and people-to-people exchange.

During that visit, both nations made far-reaching commitments to expanding engagement across multiple sectors, opening new doors for collaboration between Latin America and West Africa.

Cantillo will surely leverage this opportunity to enhance her reputation as a key figure in Colombia–Nigeria relations, cementing ties between two vibrant cultures and advancing the shared goal of deeper bilateral ties.

Ms Maricel has been driving the renewed diplomatic energy. Over the years, she has worked closely with government institutions, the business community, and cultural organisations to promote Colombia’s presence in Nigeria while fostering mutual understanding.

Her efforts have intensified interest in trade partnerships, tourism development, and cultural diplomacy between the two nations.

Her new four-year term is expected to consolidate these gains further, while her continued leadership will help sustain the momentum created by recent high-level engagements and translate them into long-term cooperation.

The Consulate is also expected to strengthen support for Colombian citizens residing or doing business in Nigeria, while helping to promote new areas of partnership.
