The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Mr. Miah Mainul Kabir, has urged the management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) to consider establishing a campus in Bangladesh to deepen its global academic footprint.

Mr. Kabir made the call on Monday during a visit to MAAUN Kano, where he commended the institution for its rising profile in academic excellence, research innovation and youth development.

“Establishing a branch of MAAUN in Bangladesh will further expand the university’s global visibility in advancing knowledge and technical skills,” he said.

The envoy, who was in the university to deliver a lecture titled Harnessing the Capacity of Youth in Economic and Social Advancement, praised MAAUN’s model of innovation-driven learning, describing it as a standard for emerging universities across the world.

The lecture, organised by the Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja in collaboration with MAAUN, focused on empowering young people with the skills and values needed for national development.

Before the lecture, the university management held a discussion session with the High Commissioner, exploring areas of potential collaboration between MAAUN and institutions in Bangladesh.

Mr. Kabir noted that the Embassy is committed to working with governments, universities and private organisations to promote impactful partnerships.

The diplomat and his team were later conducted around key facilities, including the MAAUN Innovation Hub at the School of Computing.

In his welcome address, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, said the visit reflected the university’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships and promoting youth empowerment.

He emphasised the need to equip young people with the skills and opportunities required to drive meaningful change in their societies.

Also speaking, the Vice President (Administration), Dr. Habib Awaisu Abubakar, appreciated the Bangladesh High Commission and MAAUN management for sustaining collaborations that support education and development.

During his presentation, the High Commissioner highlighted the crucial role of youth in economic and social transformation, noting that both Bangladesh and Nigeria boast vibrant youth populations capable of driving progress.

He cited examples of youth-led innovations and global cooperation, stating that MAAUN students are well positioned to contribute to such initiatives.

In his closing remarks, the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Ibrahim Maigari, thanked the High Commissioner for choosing MAAUN as the host institution for the engagement.
