Vice President Kashim Shettima has warned political leaders against disrespecting royal fathers and the traditional institution due to parochial political sentiment which undermines traditional norms, values and heritage.
He gave the warning yesterday at the Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani’s palace during the commissioning of mosques as part of activities to mark his 45th anniversary on the throne.
Shettima noted that as custodians of society’s traditional heritage and symbols of its history, glory and pride, royal fathers deserve respect from everyone. He emphasised that society owes them respect and protection.
He stated that abuse or disrespect for traditional rulers for ephemeral political power constitutes collateral damage and a threat to the cultural heritage, norms and values of society.
Shettima congratulated the emir on the occasion, describing his leadership as purposeful and exemplary.
Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi thank the vice president and other dignitaries for gracing the occasion, describing their presence as an honour to Jigawa people.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, also congratulated the emir on this royal milestone.
He further commended Governor Umar Namadi, on his transformational agenda which he said had brought more hope to the people of Jigawa in achieving sustainable development.
