Yankari Express Denies Using Vehicle For Banditry

The Yankari Express Corporation in Bauchi State has dismissed a viral social media video alleging that one of its vehicles was used to transport bandits.

Addressing journalists at a press conference yesterday, the general manager of the corporation, Engr. Babaji Yunusa, described the claim as false, misleading and completely unrepresentative of the facts.

He said the viral post alleged that a Yankari Express vehicle conveying a passenger wearing charm-laden clothes had been intercepted in Kano State for transporting bandits and smuggling arms and ammunition.

“In the video, the individual claimed that a passenger dressed in clothes full of charms was a bandit transporting weapons from Sokoto to Kano. He also alleged that security personnel had apprehended a Yankari Express vehicle carrying arms meant for kidnappers,” Yunusa said.

He clarified that the incident was grossly misrepresented. According to him, the vehicle in question was travelling from Sokoto to Kano when some passengers became suspicious of a fellow traveler dressed in protective charms and alerted security agents. The police subsequently invited the passengers and impounded the vehicle for routine checks.

Yunusa further explained that Yankari Express operates two categories of vehicles, company-owned vehicles and leased vehicles.

He noted that the vehicle seen in the video, although painted in the company’s colours, did not have a plate number or the official certification sticker issued by the corporation to all verified members of its fleet.
