According to Mr John Okoro, a maker of hamper. baskets, there is need to employ more hands good turnover and made more baskets.
“Singlehandedly, I can only produce 20 baskets a day but with additional hands, I will be able to produce more because there is the need for mass production. Government should empower us by creating conducive business atmosphere. Currently, the business environment is not smiling.”
On her part, another basket producee, Miss Murrean Eric said: “I can produce 10 per day but it could be more with additional assistance from government. The right operating environment will allow us to employ more hands. We were initially using Maryland underbridge as shops where we do our cane-weaving. But government has chased us away. and now, we operate under harsh weather conditions which is discouraging.
“We need empowerment to increase our productivity, government should give us conducive atmosphere. With the high demand for empty baskets, we can do more.”
Mostly patronised by corporate bodies who are ready to use the basket to pack their gift items to their stakeholders, investors can embark on business, especially, during this period.
Moreover, Okoro and Maureen said, “Although Christmas hampers are always in high demand between December and mid-February of the new year and basket is critical to this, Its a lucrative venture that guarantees good profit during the festive season, but we are facing harsh conditions in production.”
Okoro advised investors to start buying bulk baskets with assorted products before the prices would jump up as rhe festivity period steps in.
“With N500,000 and N1 million, one can employ hamper-basket makers for mass-production of the baskets, a business that can fetch millions of Naira.one can make millions of Naira at the end of the seasonal sales, “ he assured.
