A non-governmental organisation, Emmanuel’s Table — an initiative of the Prayer Network — has awarded scholarships and empowerment opportunities to students of the University of Lagos during its annual programme held yesterday.
The event, which brought together students, volunteers, partners and members of the Prayer Network, featured teachings, prayers and the presentation of scholarships to returning beneficiaries and newly selected recipients.
Convener of the initiative, Oluwatobi Boshoro, said this year’s scholarship covers students’ obligatory fees, departmental and faculty charges, utility payments and, where possible, hostel accommodation. Beneficiaries will also receive a one-time stipend of ₦25,000. She added that the sponsorship will run until graduation for students who maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.5.
Delivering the keynote address on “The Mind of Christ,” Pastor Oyinkan Bazuaye of RCCG The Oasis shared personal experiences and highlighted how her Christian faith has shaped her values and worldview.
A board member, Itohan Iyalla, described Emmanuel’s Table as “a seed sown by God” to demonstrate the love of Christ through practical assistance. She said the initiative, now in its eighth year, has supported more than 1,000 people and is recording its largest cycle of support this year.
Iyalla said the organisation’s impact extends beyond scholarships to providing support for women in business, families in need and orphaned children. She noted that Emmanuel’s Table has established its presence globally and plans to expand further beyond Nigeria.
One of the beneficiaries, Ajayi Mary, said the scholarship would help her settle school fees and other essential needs.
Adesanya Oluwadamilola, a 300-level Mass Communication student, said the programme had been impactful both academically and personally, noting that she intends to maintain strong academic performance to retain the scholarship.
Another beneficiary, Eletome Godwin, said the support would ease his financial burden and help him focus on his studies.
Iyalla added that Emmanuel’s Table is funded by anonymous individual donors whose continued trust in the initiative has enabled its steady growth.
