The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Dr. Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed the pride of the government and people of the state in the exceptional achievements and selfless service of former Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba (Rtd).
A statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Mai Suleh said Governor Buni stated this at the public presentation of Alkali Baba’s autobiography, “Giant Footprints: A Policeman Personified”, held at the Police Resources Centre, Jabi, Abuja.
The book captures the former IGP’s distinguished career, his strategic leadership approach, reform initiatives, and his role in managing Nigeria’s internal security challenges over the years.
The governor described the retired police chief as a consummate professional whose contributions to national security and the development of Yobe State remain enduring.
Buni represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune), praised Alkali Baba as one of the most intellectually grounded and accomplished officers to have served in the Nigeria Police Force recalling the former IGP’s courageous and professional handling of security matters during the height of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.
He noted that the people of Yobe remain grateful for Alkali Baba’s sacrifices and steadfastness during critical moments in the state’s history.
“His resilience, dedication, and commitment to protecting lives and property are commendable. We are proud of him, and we will continue to support him in all future endeavours,” Buni stated.
The governor further highlighted Alkali Baba’s direct contributions to Yobe State, such as facilitating the establishment of a police college and hospital, and supporting the recruitment of Yobe indigenes into the police force.
The governor has as a demonstration of solidarity and appreciation, purchased ten copies of the autobiography at the cost of N100 million.
The Chief Launcher, Prince (Engr.) Arthur Eze, Chairman of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, unveiled the book with a donation of N50 million.
The well-attended event featured prominent personalities, including Vice President Kashim Shettima GCON, represented by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi Kyari.
Renowned academics, Professor Etannibi Alemika and Professor Kyari Mohammed, reviewed the book, commending its depth and the valuable insights it offers on policing, leadership, and national security.
The launch attracted notable traditional rulers, including the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai; the Emir of Ngazargamu, Alhaji Tijjani Saleh Gaidam; and the Mai Pataskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya.
