It’s More Difficult To Be A Monarch Than Being A Governor — Olubadan

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, has said that it was easier to function as a State governor than being a monarch of a kingdom.

The Olubadan stated this while receiving Oba Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iru land in Lagos State, at his Bodija, Ibadan residence on Monday afternoon.

Oba Ladoja, who was a one-time governor of Oyo State, noted that whereas government had coercive powers, monarchs do not.

The Olubadan contended further that there was no definable pattern of funding for monarchs, whereas this is not so with heading a government.

According to him, there was an imperative to give constitutional roles for traditional rulers given their closeness to the grassroots.

He stated further that the expectation of the people concerning the Olubadan stool was very high with very massive jurisdiction.

“This is why we think outside the box in order not to let our people with very high expectations down,” Olubadan stated.

The monarch recalled with nostalgia his years in Lagos State, particularly Lagos Island, adding that it was a worthwhile sojourn.

Earlier, the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, extolled the virtues of Olubadan.

The Oniru told Olubadan how exciting and challenging it seemed for a former public officeholder to function as a monarch.

Those who joined Olubadan to welcome Oniru included Ekarun Balogun, High Chief Sharafadeen Alli, and former Senate Leader, Agbaakin Olubadan, Chief Teslim Folarin, while the Oniru was accompanied by many chiefs and aides to Ibadan land.
