Kano State governor, Alhaji Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) in recognition of his administration’s achievements across key sectors of the state’s economy.
The award was presented at a ceremony organised by the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service, an initiative of Best Media Relations, in partnership with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Governor Yusuf was recognised for notable interventions in education, healthcare, agriculture, urban renewal, infrastructure and social welfare.
The statement said the education sector under the Yusuf administration has witnessed large-scale rehabilitation of public schools, mass recruitment of teachers and improved funding, aimed at strengthening learning outcomes across the state.
It added that the health sector has recorded significant improvements through the revamping of primary healthcare centres, hospital upgrades and expanded access to quality medical services for residents.
In agriculture, the government was said to have revitalised the sector through farmer-support programmes, timely distribution of inputs and the strengthening of extension services, while Kano is also undergoing an aggressive urban renewal drive to restore its status as a modern and liveable metropolis.
Governor Yusuf received the award alongside governors of Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Enugu and Akwa Ibom states.
The event was presided over by the Chairman, Board of Trustees of NEAPS, Justice Mary Odili (rtd.). Other award recipients included the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.); Chairmen of the EFCC and NFIU; Comptrollers-General of Customs and Immigration; as well as the Ministers of Aviation and Finance and the Director-General of NEMA.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf dedicated the award to the people of Kano State and reiterated his commitment to people-centred governance and sustainable development.
