The Corporate Kickers Sports Club (CKSC) has launched a N180 million appeal fund to build its football pitch and other sports facilities in Abuja.
At the club’s 20th anniversary celebration, the chairman, Dr Shuaib Begore, said the pitch would serve as a permanent home for the club and a legacy for future generations.
“We started as friends who met to play football and have fun. Over the years, we have grown from friends to brothers. For 20 years, we have always rented pitches. Now we see the need to set up our grounds so the club can grow into the future,” he said.
Begore added that the facility would serve as a legacy for future generations, with children of current members automatically becoming part of the club.
“Our children will inherit the club and keep the flag flying,” he said, highlighting the importance of continuity and long-term planning.
Belgore also addressed the challenges facing Nigerian football, noting that while the country is rich in talent, proper development remains a challenge.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant football talent. The challenge has always been development. In the past, competitions such as the Governor’s Cup, Youth Forums and NUGA Games provided opportunities for harnessing talent. The private sector is now stepping up to support grassroots football, and I believe the future is bright,” he said.
The club’s 7th captain and Board of Trustees member, Obi Uwadoka, said the funds would go toward a modern, fully equipped sports centre for football, volleyball and other games.
“We want a facility that can compete with other elite clubs in Abuja. Our children are automatically members, so this project is a long-term investment in their future,” he said.
Uwadoka said the club, which now has over 60 members, includes accomplished professionals such as military officers, bankers, senior civil servants, and entrepreneurs.
Founded at the old Rabato School field with just 30 members, Corporate Kickers has evolved into a diverse and multicultural community. It is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, engages in community outreach, supports orphanages and participates in local and international matches, including a tour in Tokyo.
