Bauchi Gov Mourns Veteran Journalist, Former Bogoro Chairman Iliya Habila

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr Iliya Habila, former chairman of Bogoro local government area, who died on Thursday in Bauchi after a prolonged illness.

LEADERSHIP reports that late Habila worked with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and also served as Senior Special Assistant to the media of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

In a condolence message issued by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor described the late Habila as an exceptional journalist whose integrity, courage, and professionalism distinguished him in the Nigerian media space.

Governor Mohammed noted that, as a former Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Bauchi and Secretary of the NUJ Adamawa Council, Habila consistently upheld the highest standards of journalism.

“His commitment to truth and ethical reporting, the Governor said, contributed immensely to public enlightenment and the strengthening of democratic governance,” the governor said.

The Governor further highlighted Habila’s remarkable service in public office, recalling his tenure as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Bogoro Local Government and later as the elected Executive Chairman during his administration.

“In these capacities, he worked tirelessly for the development and unity of his people, leaving behind a legacy of service, accountability, and compassion,” he said.

Governor Mohammed also praised the late Habila’s unwavering loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), noting that until his death, he remained a dedicated advocate for progress, good governance, and peaceful coexistence.

“His wisdom, humility, and gentle disposition will be greatly missed by his colleagues, the government, and all who had the privilege of working with him,” he added.

He prayed for the repose of Habila’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
