The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has described the death of the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as a major loss to the state and the nation at large.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Media and Strategic Communications, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the NGF expressed deep sadness over the passing of Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly collapsed on Thursday and was later confirmed dead.

The Forum described Ewhrudjakpo as a dedicated public servant who served Bayelsa State with commitment, vision and a strong sense of duty.

The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said the late Bayelsa deputy governor’s life and service reflected his passion for good governance and the welfare of his people.

“His unwavering commitment to good governance, social justice and the welfare of his people stood as a testament to his character and leadership. His contributions to the development of Bayelsa State and its people will be fondly remembered,” AbdulRazaq said.

According to the NGF, Ewhrudjakpo’s values and dedication to public service were exemplary and would remain indelible to his friends, colleagues and those who worked closely with him.

The Forum expressed condolences to the government and people of Bayelsa State, describing the death as an irreparable loss.

“As we mourn his death, we share in the grief of the people of Bayelsa, his family and friends. We pray that his legacy of humility and service will continue to inspire future generations of leaders,” the statement read.

The NGF also conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, over the loss of his deputy, assuring him of the Forum’s support during the period of mourning.
