2027: We Need Stronger Alliance To Regain Political Power – Forum

The Kogi East Elites Forum has called for a strategic political alliance to help the district regain its influence in Kogi State, warning that despite holding 51 per cent of the state’s voter population, its dominance has continued to diminish.

A statement signed by Isiaka Musa, Esq. and Comrade Jonathan Haruna, the group said Kogi East is “at a crossroads” and must urgently re-evaluate its political approach.

According to the forum, politics in Kogi State remains a triangular contest involving the Igala, Ebira and Okun blocs. It stressed that victory requires strong alliances, especially as the last election showed that a candidate can win without majority support from other regions.

The group also pointed out that political leaders in Kogi West recently met and resolved to pursue an alliance, urging the East not to remain complacent despite its numbers.

The statement argued that collaboration with other regions would restore Kogi East’s political relevance, attract development, and guarantee stronger representation in government. It emphasised the need to revive the political strategy of the late Prince Abubakar Audu, which focused on people power, timing and broad-based alliances.

The forum urged residents of Kogi East to set aside internal differences and unite behind a common vision. It also charged the district’s youths to take responsibility for shaping the future, insisting that the time for decisive action is now. “To Kogi East youths, it’s time to take the lead. Tomorrow is now,” the statement read.

A political summit is expected to hold soon, during which stakeholders will discuss and decide on a workable alliance for reclaiming power and driving development in the region. The forum called on all Kogi East indigenes, both at home and abroad, to support the initiative in the overall interest of the district.
