The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has deployed officers and men to all custodial centres and formations under the command to ensure maximum security during and after the Yuletide period.
The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Jen, gave the directive at a security meeting attended by heads of custodial centres and officers in charge of facilities across the FCT in Abuja.
The command’s spokesman, Samson Duza, said this in a statement in Abuja yesterday.
Jen said the move was necessary to prevent potential security breaches and maintain order within the various custodial facilities during the festive season.
The NCoS boss warned officers against involvement in activities capable of undermining correctional operations, including trafficking, incitement, and other forms of unprofessional conduct.
According to him, adherence to the rules governing correctional practices remains a priority for the command.
“The Yuletide season is not a time to relax, but to remain alert and guard against the enemies of our communities,” he said.
Jen also urged officers to uphold humane treatment of inmates in line with global best practices while appealing to inmates to cooperate with management to ensure peaceful and orderly custodial centres.
