Vice President Kashim Shetima and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, have tasked traditional rulers on the need to promote peace and unity among all Nigerians.
They said as the country grapples with insecurity and social divisions, traditional rulers must continue to serve as bridges, working closely with governments and communities to foster dialogue, tolerance and stability.
The leaders spoke yesterday at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Yamusa III.
In his address at the occasion, the vice president eulogised the emir’s virtues, describing him as a man of peace who builds bridges of unity among all diverse groups in his emirate.
Represented by his chief of staff, Dr Umar Modibbo, Shettima described the emir as a stabilsing figure who offers calm and moral clarity in uncertain times.
He said the emir had been able to foster development collaboratively with his peace efforts, noting that such virtues were key attributes of the traditional institution.
He commended the emir for attaining 10 years on the throne of his forebears, while urging the subjects to always pray for the sustenance of peace in the emirate.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar said the traditional institution would continue to contribute and support the government in fostering peaceful coexistence in the country.
He urged leaders to always fear God in all their dealings so that the country can move forward.
He advised the emir to reciprocate the love and prayers of those celebrating with him with more zeal and commitment to his subjects and the state at large.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, thanked the celebrant and other members of the traditional council for their support and advice since the commencement of his administration in 2019.
He said the relative peace the state had been enjoying was due to the support, advice, cooperation and prayers of the traditional rulers.
“To royal highness and chief celebrant, the array of the people we have here today is a testament to the kind of person you are. People are here from all spheres of life, from within the country and outside to honour you. We pray that the Nasarawa State government will continue to be beneficiary of all the attributes of your great self and all the royal fathers we have here in Nasarawa,” he said.
