footage shared online shows the moment a man in a white T-shirt calmly approached an armed man from behind as gunfire echoed across the beach. In a split second, the civilian grabbed the weapon, struggled briefly with the assailant, and successfully pulled the gun away.
As the attacker fell to the ground, the bystander pointed the firearm back at him but chose not to fire. Instead, he placed the weapon against a nearby tree and stepped back while the gunman stumbled away. The video then shows a second shooter appearing visibly shaken by the turn of events.
Police confirmed that at least 11 people, including one of the attackers, were killed in the shooting, while 12 others were injured, among them two police officers. The second suspect was arrested shortly after the incident.
According to authorities, the violence erupted around 6:40 p.m. local time when two armed men exited a vehicle on Campbell Parade, near the Bondi Pavilion, and began firing indiscriminately into a crowd gathered for what witnesses described as a Jewish community party on the beachfront.
Emergency services responded rapidly, deploying dozens of ambulances and helicopter paramedics to the scene. Victims were treated on site before being rushed to nearby hospitals..
Video clips circulating on social media show beachgoers sprinting for safety, abandoning towels and belongings as the sound of gunfire rippled across the shoreline.
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. However, authorities have confirmed that the attack was an act terror.
