A non-governmental organisation, Hadiza Aliyu’s Foundation, has called on all stakeholders to unite against violence and injustice affecting women and girls in society, stressing that digital violence is a growing problem in Nigeria.
Hadiza Aliyu’s Foundation is committed to supporting women and children, working towards a world where every woman and child lives in safety, equality, and dignity in the vulnerable community.
Speaking on behalf of the founder and chairperson of HAF, Hadiza Aliyu Muhammed, emphasised that “we’re dedicated to promoting protection, empowerment, and inclusion, and we’re passionate about making a difference in our community.
“Our outreach focused on addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through discussions on Antenatal care, cyber bullying and abuse, and child sexual abuse with expectant mothers at a primary health care facility, she added.”
“We explored how GBV can impact pregnancy, online safety, and child protection. We provided them with a safe birth kit. The session aimed to empower women with knowledge and connect them with local services, she said.”
Collaboration is key to creating a lasting impact. The Hadiza Aliyu Foundation is open to partnering with like-minded multinationals, NGOs, and local organisations to amplify our efforts against GBV. By sharing resources, expertise, and networks, we can foster a stronger and more supportive ecosystem for survivors and vulnerable populations.
We have been working tirelessly to support marginalised groups, including persons with disabilities and children. Our initiatives have included sensitisation, education, and empowerment programs.
To sustain and scale our impact, we seek government and institutional support in the form of resources, funding, and policy backing to expand our reach, provide more comprehensive services, and advocate for policies protecting vulnerable populations. I believe that with a like-minded partnership, we can make the world a better place,” she said.
Antenatal care is the care a woman receives during pregnancy. It’s essential for ensuring the health and well-being of both the mother and the baby. Regular check-ups with a healthcare provider can help identify any potential issues early on and provide an opportunity for education and support. I encourage all expectant mothers to prioritise their antenatal care and attend all scheduled appointments.
As technology advances, our children are increasingly exposed to online risks, including cyberbullying and abuse. As mothers, we must guide our teenage girls (and boys) on how to navigate the online world safely.
We need to educate them on the dangers of online harassment, how to block and report abusive messages, and the importance of not sharing personal information online. Let’s empower our children with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe online.
Child sexual abuse is a serious issue that affects many children worldwide. As parents, it’s our responsibility to educate our children about their bodies, boundaries, and how to recognise inappropriate behaviour.
We need to create a safe and open environment where our children feel comfortable coming to us if they’re ever uncomfortable or scared. Let’s teach our children that their bodies are their own, and that they have the right to say “no” to anyone who makes them feel uncomfortable, concluded.”
