The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video in which he was seen driving recklessly on a Lagos road, leading to an intentional motor accident.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, was live-streamed on social media by the suspect. Police said the act endangered the life of the suspect and other road users, sparking widespread public concern after the footage circulated online.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, remarked that Peller’s conduct amounted to a dangerous and unlawful act, which the police described as an alleged attempt to take his own life while also posed grave risks to innocent members of the public.

The suspect is currently in custody as detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and the viral footage.

Police authorities disclosed that upon conclusion of investigations, the outcome would be made public and the suspect charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with existing laws.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators and members of the public against using online platforms to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous or criminal behaviour.

CP Jimoh stressed that the Command would not tolerate acts capable of causing loss of life or breach of public peace, noting that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

The Police Command also urged motorists and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining public safety and order across the state.

The Lagos State Police further assured residents of sustained vigilance and proactive policing to prevent avoidable tragedies on the roads and curb the growing trend of hazardous online stunts.
