The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has paid tribute to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, describing him as a symbol of integrity, accountability, and purposeful leadership.
A statement issued in Port Harcourt, MOSIEND President, Comrade Kennedy Tonjo West, said Dr Kachikwu, who turns 69, remains one of the most accomplished public servants to have emerge from the Niger Delta.
He noted that the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) left behind a professional record in law, oil, and gas administration that has continued to serve as a benchmark for reform.
West recalled that during Dr Kachikwu’s tenure as NNPC GMD, he introduced measures that strengthened transparency, restored investor confidence, and repositioned the corporation for global competitiveness.
According to him, the reforms brought administrative stability to a sector long marked by chaos and institutional distrust.
Group also pointed to what it described as Kachikwu’s pivotal role in engaging communities at a time of heightened insecurity in the Niger Delta, when militant activities and attacks on oil infrastructure were rampant. The group said his outreach to youth groups, traditional rulers, and regional stakeholders opened new channels for dialogue and helped ease tensions across the region.
He said, Dr Kachikwu demonstrated rare understanding of local realities, placing community voices at the heart of conflict resolution. Some of his ideas, he said, would later influence key policy and legislative advances in the petroleum sector.
“At 69, Dr Kachikwu remains one of the most credible voices from the Niger Delta. His reputation is intact, his contributions are recognised, and his name continues to inspire confidence,” West said.
Kachikwu, a lawyer, Harvard academic and visiting Professor, was described as one of the finest ministers from the Niger Delta to have served and worthy of honour and future national responsibility.
The joined well-wishers across the country and beyond in celebrating the former minister, praying for long life and renewed strength for continued service.
