An angry mob in Dansadau town, Maru local government area of Zamfara State, on Wednesday, attacked a member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Mikailu, over allegations of poor representation and neglect of his constituents.

Hon. Mikailu, who represents Maru South Constituency, was reportedly assaulted by irate residents when he accompanied Governor Dauda Lawal on an official visit to the troubled community.

Eyewitnesses said the mob accused the lawmaker of abandoning them since his election, claiming that he had failed to visit the area or engage with the community even during major events.

“He never comes here, not during Sallah, not when bandits attack. We only see him on television,” one angry resident said.

According to locals, the lawmaker’s absence during repeated bandit attacks and his failure to sympathise with affected families further deepened public anger.

Security operatives attached to the governor’s convoy were said to have intervened swiftly to rescue the legislator and restore calm before the situation escalated.

Governor Lawal was in Dansadau to flag off the reconstruction of the 90-kilometre Dansadau–Gusau Road, a project long demanded by residents of the area. During the visit, the governor also announced the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Dansadau General Hospital and the installation of solar-powered electricity to improve living conditions.

Reassuring residents of his government’s commitment to rebuilding communities affected by insecurity, Governor Lawal said his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare and safety of citizens across Zamfara State.

“We are determined to restore security, rebuild critical infrastructure, and ensure that every community feels the impact of good governance,” the governor said.

The visit also saw the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, confering the traditional title of Garkuwan Dansadau (Protector of Dansadau) on Governor Lawal in recognition of his development efforts and leadership.
