From all indications, the 2026 Revenue Generation Target for Tractor Hiring Unit (THU), may be unrealistic as only two Cabrio Tractors allocated to the unit are grossly inadequate for next year planting season, LEADERSHIP findings revealed.
The unit is expected to harness the needed machineries and resources for the expected bumper harvest, after receiving only Cabrio Tractors (50hp) implements and three units of global multipurpose mini tractors (6.5hp) implements, which has already begun to make a positive impact as farmers got wind of it.
Also, further findings revealed that, the unit may need not fewer than 35 tractors comprising of both units of Cabrio and Global Multipurpose Mini Tractors to hit the ground rolling for 2026 planting season.
It would be noted that, the state government established the agency to provide agricultural services to farmers across the state at a subsidized rate to enhance the livelihoods and to generate revenue for the state,
The unit was also constituted and saddled with the responsibility of training engineers and tractor distributions in the 16 Local Government Areas and the two Development Areas in the state, a task that has been denied the agency from performing by Ministry of Agriculture And Food Security for over a decade.
The General Manager of the agency, Engr. Danladi Shatalis, who spoke after receiving the tractors from the Ministry of Agriculture, appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas’ Administration for revitalizing the agricultural sector.
Engr. Shatalis, commended the recent initiative on the allocation of tractors to enhance mechanized farming and boost food security in the state.
The GM also thanked the Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas Oliver for considering and supporting the unit particularly for the provision of two Cabrio and three Global Multipurpose Mini Tractors despite initial request of a larger number of units to meet the numerous demands of farmers in the State.
He, then extended appreciation to State House of Assembly Committee Members on Agriculture and Food Security, headed by Hon. Abubakar Tanko Yusuf for show of support particularly during the recent Budget Defence.
It will be recalled that, despite commendation by the House Committee on Agriculture and Food Security over the unit’s performance for meeting the 2025 target of revenue generation, there is the need to equip the unit with more tractors in order to boost food production.
