The wife of Kwara State governor of Kwara State,Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, yesterday visited the old Ilorin Custodial Centre, Okekura and the new Custodial Centre, Mandala, where she presented welfare items to the inmates ahead of Christmas and the New Year festivities.
She said the gesture was aimed at easing the inmates stay at the custodial centre and reminding them that they were not forgotten.
The first lady who was accompanied by the commissioner for social development, Dr Nnafatima Imam, urged the inmates to remain hopeful and embrace positive change.
She assured the inmates that their present circumstance did not define their future.
She emphasised the importance of moral reformation, vocational engagement and education as pathways to personal development and reintegration.
In his remarks, the state controller of corrections, Tolorunshagba Emmanuel, expressed gratitude to the first lady on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche.
He said, “Mrs Abdulrazaq’s visit reminds us that we are not forgotten and gives hope for a brighter future. We appreciate her commitment to the Service, especially in the provision of the solar borehole we are enjoying in the Old Ilorin Custodial Centre in Okekura and other assistance she has been rendering to the Service.”
