Yobe State governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has pledged N50 million in support for the Jama’atul Nasrul Islam (JNI).
This came as the group conferred an Award of Excellence on him in recognition of his outstanding leadership, commitment to public service and contributions to Islam and state development.
The award was presented to the governor during the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of the Jama’atul Nasrul Islam.
Governor Buni was represented at the event by the deputy governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, who received the award on his behalf.
He expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah (SWT) for the opportunity to witness the milestone anniversary of the organisation, describing JNI as a pivotal institution that has continued to serve as the umbrella body of Islamic organisations in Nigeria while protecting the interests of Islam and Muslims across the country.
Buni reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to the ideals and objectives of JNI, noting that the state aligns fully with the organisation’s mission of propagating Islamic values, promoting unity, and defending the legitimate rights of both Muslims and non-Muslims in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
He expressed concern over the growing trend of abusive and divisive exchanges among Islamic scholars and preachers on social media, urging JNI to play a stronger role in promoting responsible preaching, unity, and mutual respect among the Ummah.
Governor Buni commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who is also the president-general of JNI, for fostering unity among Nigerian Muslims and constructive engagement with government.
