A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and former Commissioner for Finance, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, has congratulated Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
In a statement issued on Monday, Okumagba described the appointment as well deserved, citing Eyesan’s distinguished career in the oil and gas industry, which culminated in her role as Executive Vice President, Upstream, at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
He noted that Eyesan discharged her previous responsibilities with professionalism and competence, adding that her experience positions her well to drive reforms in the upstream petroleum sector.
Okumagba also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment, describing it as consistent with the administration’s commitment to strengthening regulatory institutions and improving sector governance.
He particularly praised Eyesan’s emphasis on digitisation and automation, as outlined during her Senate screening, saying Nigeria must urgently improve metering, monitoring and transparency across upstream operations.
“Our country needs to do more in the comprehensive monitoring of oil and gas production,” Okumagba said. “This includes deploying advanced technologies that enhance efficiency, transparency and environmental sustainability, in line with international best practices.”
He stressed the need for a centralised control and data monitoring system to provide real-time visibility of production volumes, gas flaring, emissions data, revenue capture and regulatory compliance across oil and gas fields nationwide.
Okumagba further noted that President Tinubu has consistently emphasised the need to boost oil and gas production and has introduced reforms aimed at attracting investment and improving efficiency in the sector.
He called on industry stakeholders to support Eyesan as she assumes office, urging collaboration to strengthen regulation and reposition Nigeria’s upstream petroleum industry for growth and revenue optimisation.
