Lagos State Police Command, in its renewed effort to bring policing closer to the people and strengthen safety at the grassroots, has commissioned a new divisional headquarters at Elepe, Igbogbo-Bayeku local council development area (LCDA), on the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State.

The newly inaugurated Elepe Smart Police Divisional Headquarters, facilitated by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), is designed to enhance security, safeguard lives and property, and deepen community policing in Igbogbo-Baiyeku and adjoining communities.

The initiative aligns with ongoing police reforms aimed at enhancing visibility, improving response times to distress calls, and fostering public confidence in law enforcement.

Speaking at the commissioning, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Muhammed Sheidu, asserted that the project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening internal security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Today’s commissioning marks a significant step in improving police service delivery at the grassroots. This project, executed as a special intervention of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, underscores our mandate to close critical infrastructure gaps and provide officers with functional, modern and dignified work environments,” Sheidu said.

He commended stakeholders, including the Lagos State government and the host community, for their support, while reaffirming the Trust Fund’s resolve to continue deploying resources for police training, infrastructure and improved welfare nationwide.

Representing the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID Panti, DCP Akinbiseyin Dayo, described the new division as a strategic investment in public safety and crime prevention.

“Commissioning this divisional police headquarters is not just an investment in physical infrastructure but a strategic investment in public safety, crime prevention and community confidence in policing,” Dayo said.

According to him, the new division will enhance police visibility, ensure quicker response to security threats and foster closer relationships between officers and residents. He urged officers deployed to the division to uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity, while appealing to the community to support the police with timely and credible information.

“Security is a shared responsibility. The police cannot do it alone. When criminals know that police presence is close, they think twice. That is what we are achieving here—bringing policing services to the doorstep of the people,” he added.

In his remarks, Hon. Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, described the project as a timely intervention that would deter criminal activities and promote peace in the area.

“This is a security lookout for Ikorodu. It is an all-society approach. This smart police station will help reduce crime in Elepe and Igbogbo LCDA. It is a step in the right direction, and we believe it will serve as a deterrent to criminal elements,” Benson said.
