Katsina State governor, Umaru Radda, has donated ₦10 million to Christian families at the Natsinta Army Barracks, Katsina, as part of activities marking the 2025 Christmas celebration.
The donation was announced when the governor joined Christian communities at the barracks to celebrate Christmas, an event that also featured the commissioning of renovated and remodelled family quarters for military personnel.
Governor Radda said the donation was a gesture of goodwill and appreciation for the sacrifices made by security personnel and their families in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He noted that the peace enjoyed in Katsina State was a product of the dedication and commitment of the military and other security agencies.
“The Katsina State government enjoys a strong and cordial relationship with security agencies, which has contributed significantly to the security successes recorded in the state,” the governor said.
He particularly appreciated the families of military personnel for standing by their husbands in the discharge of their constitutional duties, stressing that their support remains critical to the effectiveness of security operations.
The governor also renewed his condolences to the families of security operatives who lost their lives in the line of duty.
In addition to the donation, Governor Radda commissioned 12 renovated and remodelled ensuite family blocks at the Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ), Natsinta Army Barracks, aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of troops and their families.
Earlier, the Commander of 17 Brigade, Katsina, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, commended the governor for both the financial donation and the renovation of the quarters, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
According to him, the project aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, combat-ready and resilient force through improved welfare of personnel.
Brigadier General Omopariola also praised Governor Radda for identifying with Christian communities during the festive period, describing the move as a reflection of inclusive leadership and deep respect for religious diversity.
The governor later met with leaders of Christian communities in the state, who reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and encouraging cooperation with the state government. They commended Governor Radda for carrying all citizens along regardless of religious affiliation.
The event attracted government officials, senior military officers, Christian leaders and residents of the barracks.
