Le Roy Reveals Reason Morocco Might Fail Again

Veteran French coach Claude Le Roy has identified what he believes could be the major reason host nation Morocco may once again fall short of winning the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2025.
Despite rating the Atlas Lions as one of the strongest teams in the competition, Le Roy suggested that psychological factors could undermine their chances of lifting the trophy on home soil.
According to the experienced tactician, Morocco possesses all the necessary qualities to dominate the tournament but has historically struggled with mental pressure at major continental competitions.

“They remain the overwhelming favourites in this competition, even though technically, tactically, and physically, they are very, very sharp,” Le Roy said.

“Mentally and psychologically, we know that there is always a Moroccan vulnerability in major competitions, except at the World Cup. They can become inhibited, a bit blocked.”

Le Roy added that addressing the mental aspect of the game would be crucial if Morocco are to finally end their long wait for an AFCON title.

“I think there must be mental coaches who have prepared them for that,” he concluded.

Morocco will face Zambia in their final group match, aiming to secure the top spot and build momentum heading into the knockout stages of AFCON 2025.
