The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), seeking an investigation into Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Mohammed over allegations that they furnished false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The petition, dated June 25, 2026, was submitted by Ogbeide Associates, legal representatives of the party, and centres on a letter dated November 3, 2025, allegedly sent to INEC by the two individuals.
Mohammed and Anyanwu are the National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, of the PDP faction backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
According to the petition, the letter falsely claimed that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had suspended Umar Iliya Damagum as Acting National Chairman and appointed Abdulrahman Mohammed as his replacement.
The lawyers argued that the party’s 608th Emergency Meeting, held on November 1, 2025, reached no such resolution. Instead, they said the meeting resolved to suspend Anyanwu and three other party officers over alleged anti-party activities.
The petition further claimed that no resolution, minutes, or attendance record exists to support the alleged suspension of Damagum or the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman.
According to the petition, the official attendance record from the meeting shows that Anyanwu was absent, while Abdulrahman Mohammed was present, giving him direct knowledge of the decisions reached at the meeting before the disputed letter was sent to INEC.
The petition also referenced a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court on October 10, 2024, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/579/2024, which it said recognised Damagum as Acting National Chairman and restrained INEC from acting on documents that did not bear his signature.
It further noted that Anyanwu forwarded the judgment to INEC in November 2024 for compliance and that the Court of Appeal, in a judgment delivered on March 9, 2026, affirmed the NWC’s suspension of Anyanwu.
Beyond seeking an investigation into Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Mohammed, the petition urged the Inspector-General of Police to examine how INEC handled the November 3, 2025, letter despite allegedly being in possession of both the court judgment and the NWC resolution suspending Anyanwu.
The petition stated that the matter concerns whether public institutions were misled with documents that allegedly did not reflect the party’s internal decisions and whether such actions warrant investigation under the law.
Ogbeide Associates said it is prepared to provide the police with all relevant documents, including court judgments and internal party records, to support the investigation.
The allegations directly challenge the legitimacy of the Wike-backed PDP dealings with INEC.
The Turaki led camp hopes that if the police open an investigation and the claims are substantiated, it would strengthen it’s argument that the rival leadership relied on documents that did not reflect the party’s lawful decisions which weakens its standing in the ongoing leadership dispute.
