The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has appealed to the people of the state to remain active, vigilant and conscious of their environment.
It also urged the residents to provide credible information to the authorities as a means of promoting the security of life and property in the state.
The party further requested that the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) extend the timetable for the 2026 local government elections, warning that the current schedule could exclude the PDP as the main opposition from participating fully.
After a stakeholders’ meeting at the party secretariat yesterday, the state PDP chairman, Hon. Muhammed Gambo, said insecurity had become a major national challenge with grave implications for Kogi State.
Gambo urged governments at all levels to do more to protect life and property.
“Our people must be able to sleep with their two eyes closed and carry out their legitimate businesses without fear,” Gambo said.
He said the PDP was willing to collaborate with the authorities by offering constructive suggestions to check the worsening security challenges across the state.
The PDP chairman also appealed to KOSIEC to extend the timetable for the forthcoming 2026 local government elections, especially for their party, since he just assumed office through a court order, stressing it was in the interest of fair play and respect for democracy for the electoral commission to extend the time to enable the PDP to participate.
He described the quick closure of nomination forms as a huge blow to the PDP, requesting that an extension be granted for compliance by all parties.
