Yobe State government has confirmed the reopening of all the boarding secondary schools closed following the renewed attacks and abduction of students in Nigeria.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by the deputy governor, Idi Barde Gubana.

It deliberated on the reopening of the boarding schools in the state.

In his opening remarks, Gubana said the temporary closure of the boarding schools was due to the alarming trend of student abductions in nearby states.

According to him, following the assessment of the security situation, the state government is prepared to reopen the schools to allow students to continue their education in the state.

He said, “I want to use this opportunity to inform you that the safety of our children is of paramount importance; we must put all our hands on deck to protect our children’s lives.”

He said the meeting would address the modalities for the safe reopening of the boarding schools and outline the measures to be implemented to ensure the safety of students.

The deputy governor emphasised that a collaborative approach involving security agencies and local communities would be crucial to safeguarding the educational environment.

Some of the participants expressed their commitment to working together to develop a robust action plan that prioritises the well-being of students and to resume their classes.
