The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has destroyed 5,520 cartons of expired noodles originally intended as incentives for immunisation campaigns in the State.

The State Cold Chain Officer, Yusuf Inuwa, spoke during the destruction exercise, explaining that the noodles were supplied by WHO to support polio and routine immunisation activities scheduled for November 2025.

“The food items were meant for distribution during the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign,” Inuwa said.

However, a directive from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) led to a postponement of the exercise to December 2, 2025. By then, the noodles had already passed their best-before date, rendering them unsafe for consumption.

“As a precautionary measure, we retrieved all 5,520 cartons from the 27 local government areas to ensure that none was distributed after expiration,” Inuwa added.

He also cautioned that distributing expired food items could present serious health risks, including food poisoning, stressing that once such products expire, they become more of a liability than support.

The destruction process was supervised by officials from WHO, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA), as well as members of the media.
