The United States President, Donald Trump, announced early Saturday that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife have been captured and flown out of Venezuela following a dramatic escalation in military action by the United States.

In a post on his social platform, Truth Social, Trump said, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.”

Trump added that the operation was conducted “in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement” and promised further details during a scheduled press briefing later Saturday at Mar-a-Lago.

The announcement came amid reports of explosions and military activity in Caracas and other parts of Venezuela in the early hours of Saturday.

As of the time of filing this report, Venezuelan authorities have not confirmed Maduro’s capture. In response to the strikes, the government declared a national emergency, accusing the United States of military aggression and urging citizens to oppose what it called an imperialist attack.

The situation is rapidly evolving. The US Federal Aviation Administration banned US commercial flights in Venezuelan airspace, citing ongoing military activity. Venezuelan officials denounced the assault, asserting that civilian and military targets were hit.
