A renowned Nigerian engineer, Engr. Abubakar Rahmat Salihu, has been honoured with the Africa/Global Leadership Award alongside other world leaders at the Africa Intercontinental Conference.
The award, presented by the Africa Intercontinental Network under its “STEM for Build Up Africa” initiative, recognises outstanding contributions to youth empowerment, science and technology education, and transformative leadership in procurement and public service.
Salihu was recognised for his sustained efforts in promoting STEM education, particularly robotics, and for creating opportunities that enable Nigerian youths to compete favourably on the global stage. His interventions, organisers said, have helped inspire a new generation of innovators, engineers and leaders across Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
The organisers noted that his contributions to robotics education align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
In his professional capacity as Head of Agriculture and Water Resources at the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Salihu has also been recognised for advancing transparency, efficiency and innovation in procurement processes, while supporting policies that drive national development.
The award citation described him as a leader whose expertise in procurement, commitment to community service and passion for youth empowerment continue to make a significant impact within and beyond Nigeria.
The recognition, stakeholders said, further reinforces Salihu’s standing as a global leader and a role model for young Africans, particularly in the fields of engineering, public service and technology-driven development.
