‘Take Responsibility Or Face People’s Anger’, Dino Melaye Warns Kogi Government Over Aiyetoro Killings

A two-time member of the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye, has condemned what he called the inaction of the Kogi State Government over the killing of three indigenes of Aiyetoro Kiri in Kogi West, saying the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo administration must take full responsibility for the tragedy or face unprecedented people’s wrath.

Melaye, in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday morning, accused both the state and federal governments of failing to act decisively in protecting the people of the area.

He described the killings as unacceptable and warned that the Okun people would no longer tolerate what he called “government negligence” in matters of security.

“The Kogi State Government must take responsibility. The death of three Aiyetoro Kiri indigenes will and should be taken seriously. There are no decisive and pragmatic approaches from state and federal governments,” Melaye wrote.

He noted that the Okun people are law-abiding and tax-paying citizens who should not be abandoned by the authorities.

“We as Okun people are taxpayers and should not be abandoned. We will organise the kind of protest that police cannot stop if the stealing and killing of our people continue,” he warned.

The former federal lawmaker called for urgent and coordinated efforts to secure lives and property in the area, urging authorities to show “deliberate, organised and working efforts” to end the recurring violence.

“We want to see deliberate, organised and working efforts to secure and recover our people. Enough is enough,” he added.

Melaye’s warning came amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi State, especially the Western Senatorial District, with local communities lamenting frequent attacks and abductions by bandits.
