Alhaji Salmanu Abubakar, the recently appointed Chairman of Wikki Tourists Football Club, has assured supporters of a renewed drive to revitalise the club for enhanced performance in the current 2025/2026 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi yesterday, Abubakar acknowledged the club’s disappointing 14th position in the league table but pledged decisive action to reverse their fortunes.
He revealed that the club’s management is already working on strengthening the squad, with a particular emphasis on recruiting proven professional goal scorers to bolster the team’s attacking prowess.
According to the chairman, the club has embraced a new playing philosophy designed to boost competitiveness and overall league performance. He noted that early indications from the current campaign are promising, stressing that patience, unity, and collective backing are vital for achieving the desired outcomes.
Abubakar assured supporters and stakeholders that his leadership would ensure a level playing field for everyone, underpinned by professionalism, transparency, and discipline in the club’s operations.
He urged fans to remain calm, steadfast, and supportive of the team, whilst also calling for prayers to support the management and technical staff in their efforts to revive the club.
Outlining his administrative approach, Abubakar promised a clear division of labour and shared responsibilities within the club’s structure. He explained that key officials, including the camp commandant and team management, would be assigned clearly defined roles to enhance efficiency and accountability.
The chairman further emphasised that Wikki Tourists FC is neither a political, tribal, nor regional club, but a unifying institution belonging to all citizens of Bauchi State.
In line with his inclusive vision, Abubakar pledged to actively involve the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the club’s activities to promote transparency, accountability, and collective success.
He also expressed gratitude to Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Babayo Gabarin, for deeming him worthy of the appointment, promising not to let down the government and the people of the state.
