The inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the redeployment of DIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel to head the Force Intelligence Department (FID), a critical arm responsible for intelligence gathering and analysis, in a bid to tackle insecurity across the country.
Also affected in the major redeployment were 17 Commissioners of Police, who were recently promoted and redeployed to key departments, commands and formations across Nigeria.
The IGP said the deployment was designed to strengthen operational capacity, enhance leadership effectiveness and improve service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)
Some of the commissioners of police assigned to strategic state commands included CP Aina Adesola to Delta State, CP Umar Mohammed Hajedia to Kebbi State, and CP Iyamah Daniel Edobor to Bayelsa State.
Others were deployed to specialised units and departments such as anti-human trafficking, marine and maritime commands, community policing, training institutions, X-Squad, railway and highway safety formations, as well as investigative and logistics units at the Force Headquarters and FCID annexes across the country.
IGP Egbetokun charged the officers to bring their wealth of experience to bear in their new roles, emphasising professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct and strict adherence to the rule of law as non-negotiable standards.
He said the latest postings signalled the Police leadership’s resolve to reposition the Force for more effective policing, intelligence-driven operations and improved public safety nationwide.
