No Individual Has Control Over All Progressives Congress – Yilwadat

The national chairman of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwadat, has declared that no individual has control over the party.

The chairman of the ruling party said governors, lawmakers and local government chairmen and governors have no ultimate control over the party.

He however emphasised that decisions about the party are often made at the national level.

Yilwadat said this when he featured as a guest on the Nigeria @ Sunset programme, monitored by our correspondent on Jay FM station Jos, Plateau State.

Although the ruling party has various organs, including national convention (the highest decision making body); the National Executive Committee (NEC); National Working Committee (NWC); the president and governors are regarded as the main power blocs in the party.

Conventionally, the president is regarded as the national leader of the party while governors are regarded as leaders in the states.

But the national chairman of APC said, “Across the country, nobody can take any section of the party. For anything you are going to do at the state level, it is planned at the National level. It is not planned at the state level. This is APC structure and that is how we work.

“We work with structure. We don’t work with sentiments and emotions. Nobody has control over the party, even myself. No local government chairman has control over APC. No governor has control over APC. No senator or individual has control over APC,“ the chairman said.

The national chairman further said to avoid unnecessary crises, they avoided forming a board of trustees in the party, emphasising that “that was why APC doesn’t have a board of trustees.

According to him, the ruling party is owned by the people adding that people are the trustees of APC.

“Unlike other political parties where you have some people controlling and having structures of the party in their hands.

“As a party chairman, there is no board of trustees supervising me. I supervise myself,” he added.
