The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has impounded 21 commercial motorcycles and arrested their riders in enforcement of the ban against the plying of major roads and highways within the capital city.

The culprits were arrested while operating across major roads and corridors within the FCT.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Thursday that, “today, a combined team of security operatives on operation sweep operation and vehicle inspection officers, embarked on an enforcement operation across major roads and corridors within the FCT.

“The operation led to the impounding of 21 commercial motorcycles found violating the existing restriction on motorcycle operations along major roads and highways. The riders were apprehended in line with extant laws and regulations.

“This enforcement exercise forms part of a sustained inter-agency strategy aimed at reducing traffic-related crimes, curbing the use of commercial motorcycles for criminal activities, and enhancing public safety across the FCT.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the strict enforcement of all security and traffic regulations designed to protect lives and property.

He warned that continued defiance of the ban on commercial motorcycles along major routes will attract firm enforcement actions, while assuring residents that such proactive operations will be intensified across the six Area Councils of FCT.

The FCT Police Command also urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, comply with all traffic and security directives, and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency phone lines: 08032003913, 07057337653.
