In a public statement, The Parliament Diary’s management distanced itself from what it called malicious and baseless allegations of unpaid services related to a recent event the publication organised.

The Parliament Cable Network Service Limited, the publisher and owner of The Parliament Diary, stated in a press release issued on Thursday that it had become aware of rumours circulating in the National Assembly and among the general public that certain individuals or organisations had provided services for the event without receiving payment.

The statement emphasised that no such individuals provided services for the event in question, specifically refuting claims made by any person or organisation identified as “Dispatcher” or others claiming affiliation with such a name.

“The Parliament Cable Network Service Limited categorically states that no individual or entity known as ‘Despatcher,’ or any other person claiming association therewith, provided services for the event, and no payments whatsoever are owed,” the statement read.

The publisher cautioned that the allegations were untrue and intended to harm The Parliament Diary’s and its principals’ reputations. Public members were urged to disregard the accusations completely, especially those from National Assembly officials.

The business also gave those in charge of spreading the allegations a seven-day deadline to cease the alleged defamatory behaviour immediately, publish a complete public retraction, and submit an unconditional written apology. It issued a warning that noncompliance would result in legal action under Nigerian law, including damages, injunctive relief, and defamation.

Copies of the notice were sent to the National Assembly’s Deputy Clerk, the Sergeant-at-Arms, the Divisional Police Officer at the National Assembly, and the Department of State Services at the National Assembly.
