In a bold push to deepen transparency and put public funds under the spotlight, the Katsina State Government is set to unveil a public monitoring website that will allow citizens to track how local government budgets are implemented across the state.

The special adviser on Local Government Inspectorate to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Lawal Rufai Safana, revealed this during an interview with LEADERSHIP Sunday, describing it as a game-changer for grassroots accountability.

“I have developed a public monitoring website where budget implementation will be published on a monthly and ongoing basis,” Safana said.

He noted that the platform will give residents direct access to information on projects and spending in all local government areas.

According to him, the website will display approved budgets, fund releases, project locations, and stages of execution, enabling citizens, civil society groups, and the media to independently monitor performance at the local level.

Safana said the initiative reflects the Radda administration’s commitment to open governance and people-centred development, stressing that transparency is critical to restoring confidence in local government administration.

“For the first time, people will not have to guess what their local governments are doing. They will be able to see it for themselves,” he added.

The special adviser explained further that the platform will complement the work of the Local Government Inspectorate, which conducts routine inspections and receives reports from resident inspectors in all councils, adding that public scrutiny will further strengthen compliance with approved budgets and quality standards.

He linked the initiative to the newly prepared 2026 local government budgets, which he said are more realistic, professional, and transparent, adding that publishing implementation details will ensure that projects captured in the budgets translate into visible development.

Safana expressed optimism that the website would promote community ownership of projects and encourage citizens to take an active interest in governance at the grassroots.

“Transparency works best when the people are watching,” he said, assuring that the government remains committed to accountability, effective supervision, and meaningful development across Katsina State.
