The Abdullahi Fodio University Aleiro (AFUSTA), Kebbi State, has awarded honorary doctorate degrees on Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, His Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Imo State governor and chairman of Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma and governors of Sokoto, Zamfara and Borno states, Ahmed Aliyu, Dauda Lawal and Prof Babagana Zulum, respectively.
According to the vice chancellor of the University, Prof Danshehu Bagudu Gwadangaji during his speech at the Convocation Square of the University in Aleiro Main Campus on Saturday, the University decided to confer the personalities with the degrees due to their leadership and service across their states and the country.
He added that these illustrious leaders and revered monarchs have contributed immensely to governance, peace-building, education and socio-economic development across the country.
The VC further disclosed that 7,221 students who graduated in 2010/2011 and 2023/2024 drawn from 13 academic sessions will be awarded with degrees, diplomas and certificates.
Prof Danshehu noted that the convocation coincides with 19 years of sustained academic activities of Abdullahi Fodio University Aleiro which represents the 1st convocation ceremony in the history of the university.
He thanked Governor Nasir Idris for funding the convocation and assured that the university’s support towards the success of education in the state.
In his speech, Governor Nasir Idris commended the university for finding him and other personalities worthy of the award.
He disclosed that his administration will continue to prioritise the education sector due to its impact on livelihood.
