Over two million members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been digitally verified in the ongoing nationwide e-membership registration exercise of the party in the last one week.
APC national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru disclosed this after the national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and state coordinators overseeing the exercise met at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday.
Basiru stated that APC members across the country are directed to be digitally identified before the end of January, 2025.
He said the exercise is significant to the party because the data from e-registration is essential to its operational efficiency; mobilisation, organisation and consultation.
The national secretary projected that by next week when the party will bring a new update, the figure will climb up to about 8 or 9 million.
Basiru charged party leaders and stakeholders in all states to take the exercise seriously as it is key to planning for the 2027 general election.
“We are happy to inform the Nigerian people that as of today, just a week into the exercise, with many of the states yet to even start in full, Nigerians who are registered to be members of APC are already in excess of 2 million members who are digitally verified and have their name and also have their voter identification number.
“In a couple of days, particularly when we’ll be making another assessment by next week, we should be in the region of about 8 or 9 million and in membership by the grace of God.
“What is also important is to say that we want our stakeholders in all states to take this exercise seriously. It stands at the root of ensuring that we have an organic party that is mobilising Nigerians to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
Zulum Picks APC’s Digital Membership Card
In a related development, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday picked up his membership card for the ongoing All Progressives Congress’ (APC’s) digital registration exercise.
Governor Zulum was presented with his membership card by the Borno State APC chairman, Hon Bello Ayuba, following his registration by the agent of his ward, Aiari unit 003, after the flag off of the exercise at the party’s State secretariat in Maiduguri.
Alongside the governor, his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur and the APC Deputy national chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, have been presented with their membership cards.
Speaking shortly after the registration process, Zulum said: “Strengthening internal democracy is a key to stable democracy, and therefore, I call on all members of our party to register via the e-platform. Let us expand our membership.
“I believe Borno State can register more than 2 million people for the APC. I want all the critical stakeholders to work assiduously to ensure the success of this registration exercise.”
The APC’s digital membership card initiative aims to create a verifiable, centralised database of all party members. This system aims to enhance internal democracy, streamline communication, and facilitate more effective political engagement.
Ayuba commended Governor Zulum’s proactive leadership and mobilisation efforts, thanking him for the relentless support
The occasion was attended by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Barrister Mohammed Tahir Moguno, Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN).
Other high-level dignitaries present included the member representing Marte, Monguno, Ngangai constituency at the House of Representatives, Engr Bukar Talba; the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan; the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Malam Bukar Tijani; the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr Babagana Mallumbe; commissioners and other government officials.
The APC party membership e-registration exercise officially commences on Monday, January 5, 2026.
This exercise is open to both existing and new members of the party and is aimed at strengthening internal structure, ensuring proper documentation, and promoting transparency and accountability within the party.
It was learnt that members are advised to come with their National Identification Number (NIN), as registration will not be possible without it. The requirement is to ensure proper identification and an accurate membership database.
