The Kwara State government has restated its commitment to promoting and supporting local production of goods, which it described as a key driver of economic growth and sustainable development.
The Commissioner for Finance, Dr Hauwa Nuru, stated this when a delegation from the Muslimah Entrepreneur Business Forum visited her ahead of the forthcoming pre-Ramadan Trade Fair in Ilorin, the state capital.
Nuru described the pre-Ramadan initiative as a strategic platform for increasing the visibility, accessibility and competitiveness of locally made goods.
She said the initiative aligned with the state government’s broader agenda of empowering indigenous producers and strengthening the local economy.
“The trade fair provides an important opportunity to showcase our local products and connect our entrepreneurs to wider markets. The Kwara State government remains committed to supporting local production and ensuring that our goods and services meet the standards required to compete effectively,” Nuru stated.
She stressed the critical role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in driving inclusive economic growth, job creation and community development.
Nuru added that empowering local entrepreneurs, particularly women-owned businesses, is essential to building a resilient and self-sustaining economy.
The commissioner assured the forum of the state government’s continued support for initiatives that promote enterprise development, ethical trade and sustainable livelihoods.
Earlier, the convener of the forum, Hajia Fatimah Saliu, sought the support of the Ministry of Finance and invited the state government to grace the pre-Ramadan Trade Fair 3.0.
