Chairman of Katsina local government area, Hon. Isah Miqdad, has handed over contract documents for the construction of a Girls’ Secondary School in the council.

This has been a major step toward expanding access to quality education for girls in the area.

The project, valued at N690 million, was approved by the governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, who also authorized the release of 40 per cent of the contract sum as mobilisation fees to facilitate the immediate commencement of construction work.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the councillor representing Wakilin Gabas II Ward, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Malam, disclosed that the project was initiated following a formal complaint he submitted to the LGA Chairman on the urgent need for a Girls’ Secondary School to meet the growing educational demands of the community.

According to him, the chairman promptly conveyed the request to Governor Radda, who approved the project.

He described the handover of contract documents as the culmination of sustained advocacy and expressed appreciation to all those who played key roles in bringing the project to fruition.

The executive secretary of the Katsina State Tertiary Education Trust Fund (KTDMB), Dr. Mustapha Shehu, while giving a detailed technical briefing on the project, urged the contractor to prioritise the engagement of indigenes of the host community in the course of construction, noting that this would enhance self-reliance and stimulate local economic activities.

In his remarks, Hon. Isah Miqdad commended Governor Dikko Umar Radda for his continued support and swift response to requests that exceed the capacity of the local government.

He assured that a robust monitoring committee would be constituted to supervise the project from inception to completion, in order to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.

The chairman also called on members of the host community to take ownership of the project by acting as vigilant watchdogs to protect it from vandalism or interference by unscrupulous elements.
