The contractor handling the construction of the 25-kilometre Gashua–Masaba rural road in Yobe State has set November deadline for the completion of the long-awaited project, raising hopes for thousands of residents across farming communities along the road.
Mr Kabir Mohammad of Maduwa Roads and Construction, the firm handling the project, said that major milestones have been achieved, with clearance and earthworks fully completed.
He said that work is progressing steadily and that the company is committed to meeting the November deadline.
Mohammad said the road will serve as a critical lifeline for about 14 agrarian communities, noting that its completion will significantly boost farming, ease the movement of produce to markets and stimulate agriculture-related businesses across the axis.
“This road is not just asphalt and earth; it is an economic corridor for farmers and traders,” he said, adding that improved access will reduce post-harvest losses and attract private investment into the rural economy.
Speaking during a media tour at the construction site, Yobe State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the Gashua–Masaba road is a clear demonstration that every community in the state matters to Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Bego explained that communities along the route were previously landlocked, relying on difficult and seasonal paths that cut them off during the rainy season.
He noted that the new road will enhance security, improve access to social services and strengthen ties between rural and urban areas.
To the commissioner, the benefiting communities are known for cultivating various cash crops and vegetables, including grains and fresh produce that supply markets within and outside the state.
He added that better road infrastructure will translate into higher incomes for farmers and improved food supply chains.
“This project aligns with the governor’s broader vision of inclusive development, rural transformation and economic recovery,” Bego said, stressing that infrastructure remains a key pillar of the administration’s development agenda.
LEADERSHIP reports that with November now set as the deadline to deliver the project, residents along the Gashua–Masaba corridor are watching closely, hopeful that the long-promised road will soon open new pathways to growth, prosperity and connection.
