The Kano State Police Command has thwarted a major attempt to traffic explosive materials within the state, following intelligence-led operations that led to the recovery of detonating devices and the arrest of a suspect.

Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed that the breakthrough was achieved in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on enhanced intelligence gathering and proactive policing.

In the first operation carried out on January 13, 2026, operatives of the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge local government area of the State.

According to him, during the search, two large sacks containing suspicious items were recovered, noting that experts from the Command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit identified one sack as containing six rolls of detonating cords, while the other held illicit substances.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Anti-Daba Unit of the Command intercepted a commercial tricycle rider during an intelligence-led patrol at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale local government area of the State. A search revealed three bags containing 3,700 electric detonators. The rider led police to the arrest of a suspect, Ibrahim Garba, also known as “Manyan Baki,” aged 49, from Zamfara State. The suspect reportedly confessed to facilitating the movement of the explosive materials from Nasarawa State to other destinations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved and urged residents to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious movements or items to the police.

The Command also cautioned members of the public against touching suspicious objects, advising them to keep a safe distance and immediately alert security agencies as investigations continued.
