The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Sen. Ali Ndume, has warned terrorists’ collaborators and informants in Gwoza local government, urging residents to expose and deal decisively with such persons if caught.
Ndume gave the warning and instruction yesterday at the Emir of Gwoza’s palace, where he held a meeting with the monarch, youths and stakeholders before proceeding to Bulabulin/ Gwoza-Wakani ward, where he obtained his All Progressives Congress (APC) digital membership card.
The lawmaker was accompanied by the director-general of the National Women Development Centre, Hon. Asabe Vilita and other party chieftains.
Ndume said his visit was also to consolidate political strength and enhance communal security, adding that the visit focused on a massive mobilisation drive for the APC electronic registration and the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration exercise.
Emphasising the importance of active participation in the registration exercise, he said:” I am here to mobilise, encourage, and advocate for this registration.
“The turnout is encouraging, and by the grace of God, Gwoza will produce the highest number of voters in Borno State so that we can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.”
The lawmaker also commended the Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum for what he described as remarkable developmental strides in Gwoza and across the state, urging the people to remain united and politically engaged to attract more state and federal projects.
During a consultative meeting held at the palace of the Emir of Gwoza, Ndume addressed the security situation in the area.
He commended the Nigerian military, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), local vigilantes, and the people of Gwoza for their resilience and commitment to defending their communities.
“We will not tolerate anyone serving as an informant. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with decisively. You cannot live among your people and betray them,” the senator warned.
Ndume further raised concerns over the growing menace of drug abuse and other social vices, announcing that he has liaised with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to identify and flush out drug peddlers.
He also revealed ongoing engagement with women groups to address emerging social challenges in the community.
On education, Ndume encouraged youths to enrol in the Federal College of Education, Gwoza, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, pledging to personally support the registration of underprivileged students to ensure access to education regardless of financial status.
The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, expressed concern over drug abuse among youths, stressing that meaningful development cannot thrive in a community plagued by drugs.
He called on parents, traditional leaders and youths to work collectively to eradicate the menace.
Earlier, the director-general of the National Women Development Centre, Dr Bashir, urged youths to shun crime and embrace meaningful and productive ventures, noting that Gwoza leaders at all levels are united in attracting sustainable development to the area.
The director-general called on members of APC in Gwoza to massively obtain the digital membership card of the party and PVCs to give the party victory in the 2027 election as the second largest local government area with voting strength in Borno.
