Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has asked the force commander (FC) of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Saidu Tanko Audu, to deepen operations into the Islands/tumbus in Lake Chad.
He described them as ungoverned spaces where the terrorists hibernate during the heat of military operations, regroup and continue to cause mayhem on innocent civilians and communities
He also called for deployments on the Islands, especially on the Nigerian side, to deny terrorists freedom of action and safe havens from where they launch attacks.
The governor assured the FC of the state government’s continued support despite the challenging demands on its scarce resources.
Governor Zulum spoke when he hosted General Audu in Borno State.
A statement by the acting chief military public information officer, Lt-Col Iweha Ikedichi, said the visit was part of Audu’s familiarisation tour, since he assumed command of the MNJTF on 13th November, 2025.
While congratulating the FC on his appointment, he thanked security agencies for their support to the state government, which underpins the peace and development that Borno State continues to enjoy.
Earlier, Audu said he was in the state to see the governor as a major stakeholder of the Lake Chad Basin Commission Governors Forum. He appreciated the state government’s previous support for the MNJTF’s operations and called for more.
