Atiku Cautions Against Rift In ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) stands to benefit from the rift within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) resulting from differences between his supporters and those of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 election.

Atiku stated this on X in response to a post by a user who commented on the frayed relationship between supporters of Atiku and Obi.

The owner of the handle Everest had posted, “Atiku’s people want to insult Peter Obi without Atiku getting the heat back. Maybe they feel Atiku deserves respect and Peter Obi does not.”

Loyalists of Atiku and Obi have been at loggerheads over the presidential ticket of the ADC, since Obi formally joined the coalition party at the start of this year.

Atiku, Obi and former Transportation minister, Chibuike Amaechi, as members of ADC, had declared interest to contest for the presidential seat.

Obi and Amaechi had said they wouldn’t be contesting as running mates.

However, shortly after Obi formally joined the ADC, renowned political economist, Prof Pat Utomi had warned that he would stop supporting Obi if he chooses to be a running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

In a counter reaction, an Atiku loyalists and media executive, Dele Momodu, opposed Utomi’s view.

However, reacting yesterday on X to the Everest’s post, Atiku said, “Dear Everest, Anyone who insults Obi or Atiku do not mean well for the leaders, the Coalition ADC and for Nigeria and Nigerians. The only persons who benefit from such a civil war are the APC urban bandits who want to maintain the satanic status quo. We are better together!”

Meanwhile, the convener of the League of Northern Democrats, Umar Ardo, believes Peter Obi does not stand a chance to get the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar does not step down.

Ardo spoke on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, arguing that Atiku is poised to pick the ADC ticket for the 2027 election ahead of the ex-Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate.

“Well, the ADC, as it is currently constituted, if it goes for primaries a hundred times, Atiku will win a hundred times. There is absolutely no doubt about that. How Peter Obi and his supporters react is what will determine the election,” Ardo said on the breakfast show.

“I am not saying that Peter Obi cannot be the candidate of the party; however, he can only be the candidate of the party if Atiku steps down,” he stated.
